The reading period for the 4th Annual Dogfish Head Poetry Prize is from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Poets from the Delmarva Peninsula should send a chapbook-length manuscript of up to thirty one-page poems (or the equivalent) an acknowledgements page for previously published poems, a table of contents, and two title pages, one with the author's name and contact information on it and one without the author's name and contact information (this is a blind judging) along with a self-addressed, stamped postcard for acknowledgement of receipt of the entry if desired, to: 4th Annual Dogfish Head Poetry Prize, c/o John Milton and Company, Quality Used Books, 104 Federal Street, Milton, DE 19968.
Winner agrees to submit a black-and-white photograph (head shot) of themselves in the event they win, and, further, agrees to maintain the fact of their having won a secret until the formal announcement is made at the 8th John Milton Memorial Celebration of Poets and Poetry on the evening of December 8th, 2006, in the beautifully restored Milton Theatre in historic downtown Milton, DE, and, further, agrees to appear in person at said event, to read from their winning chapbook.
The Dogfish Head Poetry Prize consists of $200 and two cases of Dogfish Head Craft Brewed Ale, courtesy of Dogfish head Crafted Brewed Ales of Milton, DE, and the organizers will arrange for the publication of the winning manuscript by Bayoak Publishers of Milford, DE. The winner receives from Bay Oak 10 copies of their chapbook. Twenty copies will be presented to Dogfish Head Craft Brewed Ales for promotional purposes, Twenty copies will be presented to the organization and/or individuals who underwrite the cost of the chapbook's publication, and the remaining fifty will be divided between Bay Oak Publishers and John Milton and Company Quality Used Books. The Prize is in lieu of royalties on the first hundred copies; Bay Oak Publishers standard royalty agreement applies to any additional printings. The winner also agrees to credit the Dogfish head Prize and Bay Oak Publishers in the subsequent publication of any of the component poems or groups of poems published separately from chapbook reprintings. The Dogfish Head Poetry Prize is open to Delmarva residents only; you must be twenty-one years of age on or before December 8, 2006 in order to qualify for the prize.
