Dinnertime! We're taking our Ancient Ales on the road
Over the next few months, we're celebrating our liquid time capsules and the foods that pair best with them.
Since 1999, Dogfish Head has worked closely with biomolecular archaeologist Dr. Patrick McGovern to bring ancient brewing history back to life. The resulting Ancient Ales – from places like Rome, Turkey, Finland, Honduras and China – transport modern beer connoisseurs to a time when brewers were unencumbered by purity laws, style rules and bottom lines.
Ticketholders will get an Ancient Ales goblet, a keychain opener, a coaster and a poster to take home.
Like Dogfish Head, ancient brewers made the most of the ingredients they had on hand, and their beers were as colorful and creative as their cultures. Our modern-day interpretations include ingredients like juniper berries, chai, cocoa nibs, muscat grapes and saffron, making them outstanding food beers.
At select locations, we'll debut our new Ancient Ale Kvasir, developed with the help of chemical, botanical and pollen evidence taken from a 3,500-year-old drinking vessel from Denmark. The base of Kvasir is a toasty red winter wheat, and lingonberries and cranberries deliver a pungent tartness. While a handful of hops is used, an earthy, bitter counterpunch to honey and birch syrup comes from the herbs myrica gale and yarrow.
Host restaurants will pair the Ancient Ales with modern cuisine, and each ticketholder will get an Ancient Ales goblet, keychain opener, a stone coaster and a poster to take home.
