Science + beer = an amazingly off-centered field trip for adults.

Through the summer of 2014, Dogfish Head is sponsoring BEERology at the San Diego Museum of Man. BEERology explores the strange and interesting ways ancient Egyptians, Sumerians, Chinese and others perfected the craft of brewing.

Since 1999, Dogfish Head has followed their lead by working closely with Dr. Patrick McGovern, one of the world's leading experts in ancient beverages. With his help, we've unearthed ancient recipes from the Near East to the Far East, from Scandinavia to the Mediterranean, and from Africa to South America.

At BEERology, you'll learn fascinating stories and see phenomenal artifacts that reveal the links between beer and culture, such as the solid gold beer cup of an Inca king.

There also will be four special events, including a night of Ancient Ales with Dogfish Head:

Sept. 19, 2013: Yeast: The Smallest Ingredient in the World's Favorite Drink. Experience the San Diego Museum of Man's newest exhibit, BEERology, as it was meant to be – with beer! The scientists and beer-lovers at White Labs Inc. will be on hand to explain the vital role of yeast during the brewing process. Plus, enjoy beer tastings from craft brewers AleSmith, Left Coast, Lucky Buddha, and Ninkasi, as well as treats from La Bella Pizza Garden, Tarantino Gourmet Sausages, and Grove Pastry. Tickets.

Jan. 16, 2014: Ancient Ales: What did Ancient Egyptians and Sumerians have in common? Beer! Ancient cultures from around the world brewed many types of beer and today modern breweries re-create those classics. Join the museum and Dogfish Head for food and beer tastings of these special drinks. Tickets.

March 20, 2014: Flavors in Harmony: Pairing Beer & Food. Enjoy specially paired craft beer and delicious food samples and learn how certain food and beer flavors complement each other so well.

June 19, 2014: Hopfest at the Museum. Tour the San Diego Museum of Man's BEERology exhibit and experience Hopfest! We'll celebrate the hoppy goodness of beer while exploring the role of hops in the brewing process. Join the Museum and local craft breweries for this exciting evening, including craft beer and food tastings.
