HOLY COW ... National musical acts FOR FREE?!
The First Brewpub in the First State was founded on a commitment to an off-centered, world-class culinary and libations experience with a sweet side dish of live music. We’re rolling into 2024 strong with our sights dead set on filling the rafters at Brewings & Eats with the euphoric sounds of top-tier bands. In the first seven weeks of the year, we’re bringing THREE world class live music acts to our stage, which you can rock out to with us FOR FREE.
From rap to folk to indie/alt rock, these artists are bringing a wide range of genres to Rehoboth Beach to give you your live music fix for every headspace! Starting off strong, we’ve got Schoolly D playing at Brewings & Eats on Wednesday, Jan. 24. A few days later, you can catch nationally known Sluice on Friday, Jan. 26. And last, but absolutely not least, Brigitte Calls Me Baby is coming to our stage on Saturday, Feb. 17. All the shows are free and open to all ages.
Schoolly D – Wednesday, Jan. 24, at 9:30 p.m.
Dubbed the “the forefather of gangsta rap," by none other than Ice-T himself, it’s safe to say that this Philadelphia-based artist has made a big name for himself and paved the way for others. Even if you haven't heard of Schoolly D, you've likely (unknowingly) heard his music. His 1985 single "P.S.K. 'What Does It Mean?,'" is recognized by many as the first gangsta rap song ever, and its influence is unmatched. The lyrics and flow influenced Ice-T's "6 'N the Morning" and Eazy-E's "Boyz-N-the-Hood," and the song’s beat, which Schoolly D also created, has been used dozens of times over rap tracks and songs from the likes of Siouxsie and the Banshees ("Kiss Them for Me"), the Prodigy (including "Diesel Power," featuring Kool Keith), and Jennifer Lopez ("I'm Glad").
The pub will be closed at 4 p.m. for a private event, and doors will open at 9 p.m. for the show!
PLUS - Wednesdays at Brewings & Eats, enjoy 25% off exclusive beers!
Sluice – Friday, Jan. 26, at 9 p.m.
American indie rock band Sluice held a top spot on Dogfish Head founder Sam Calagione’s 2023 Spotify Wrapped playlist, and they’re coming to OUR STAGE! Sluice’s latest album highlights diverse North Carolina folk, experimental, and indie artists, while exploring themes of isolation and depression that evolve into stories of community and personal growth. “Could you pass me a beer, oh no it fell in the river. Hey man that’s all right, goodnight.”
Opening for Sluice is the incredible solo artist, Libby Rodenbough. The cover of Between the Blades, Libby Rodenbough’s second full-length album, depicts two dogs’ jaws flaring up against a bubblegum pink carpet. It’s a contrast in more ways than one: teeth and comfort, sure, but also—as anyone who has had an animal knows—there’s usually more than meets the eye and it’s possible to hold more than one thing in your heart. Her music is a magical dichotomy, familiar and strange at all once.
We're celebrating the band’s arrival with a one-night-only, spruce-infused cocktail that Chesapeake & Maine’s lead mixologist, Ryan, concocted alongside our Dogfish Head Distilling team. And Fridays at the brewpub are All Day Cocktail Hour, where you can enjoy 25% off specialty cocktails.
Brigitte Calls Me Baby – Saturday, Feb. 17, at 9 p.m.
Chicago-based band, Brigitte Calls Me Baby, has embarked on its debut U.S. headlining tour and is making a special stop in Rehoboth Beach. Spanning genres and eras, the band seamlessly blends mid-century pop with early-millennium indie-rock, a unique fusion that defines their distinctive sound. Their music is equal parts elegant time warp and up-close exploration of our modern-day neuroses. Centered on Leavins' hypnotically crooning vocal work, the result is a rare convergence of sophistication and style and unabashed sincerity.
While you’re here for the show, be sure to take advantage of 15% off cases of beers and canned cocktails at the Off-Centered EmPOURium. Feel free to get creative and mix and match your own 24-pack case.
There’s nothing quite like the enjoyment of a beautiful beer while listening to original music at the same time to create an exponentially awesome experience. And these are some shows you won’t want to miss!
