Annual Extreme Beer Fest brew day with the Alstrom Brothers!
The Alstrom Brothers of BeerAdvocate joined us in our Rehoboth brewhouse today for our annual Extreme Beer Fest brew day. This year’s beer? A Malt Liquor. The inspiration? Well, it all started over margaritas …
Sam, Brewmaster Tim, Todd and Jason of BeerAdvocate, and Todd’s wife Candace were catching up at D’Corazone (a Denver favorite) during the Great American Beer Festival. While throwing around ideas for their 2016 EBF beer, Sam suggested a slightly higher ABV brew and a classic American style - Malt Liquor. Sold.
With that, a beer was born … with a slight twist. Everyone at the table contributed a different ingredient and here’s what we ended up with today:
- - Hominy from Tim
- - Huitlacoche (corn smut) from Candace (who couldn't make it for the brew day).
- - Peruvian mountain dried corn nuts from Jason.
- - Poblano and green chilies from Todd.
- - And the name, Liquor De M’Alstroms from Sam.
Today's ingredients.
Roasting the corn nuts.
Amanda and Todd mashing in.
Clocking in at 8% ABV and 10 IBUs, Liquor De M’Alstroms will premier at the Extreme Beer Fest pre-party taking place at Mead Hall. We’ll have a special Randall the Enamel Animal running as well chock full of fresh oranges to create instantaneous Brass Monkeys … yeah, Brass Monkeys. Of course, it will also be available at the Extreme Beer Fest on February 5 & 6, and on draft at our Rehoboth brewpub the weekend of EBF.
We’ve had a blast bringing this beer to life and we can’t wait to share it with you all at the pre-party and EBF. See you in Boston - cheers!
Todd, Jason, Tim, Amanda and Sam.
