Lion Dandy Ale

Lion Dandy Ale, the September release from the Province Ale Co. is brewed with a French Biere De Garde yeast, floor malted pale malts, brown sugar, French Strisselspalt Hops, and a meadow-full of Dandelion greens.

Province Ale Co

The recipe, passed down to Nicolo from his brewing mentor Henri Hillion (of French Origin as the story goes), is for a traditional French Country Ale with the addition of fresh Dandelion greens to assist the hops in adding bitterness to balance the sweet malts.  Dandelion greens have a long culinary history in that region and have long been used to make Tonic Beers and Wines to assist in the cleansing of the liver.  Dandelion greens are highly nutritious and also contain a high amount of potassium.  The flavor of this healthy ale is bready from the malts and balanced by delicate bitterness from both the Dandelion greens and French hops.  The greens also add grassy herbal notes to the beer which meld perfectly with the earthiness of both the malt and hops.

Lion Dandy Ale will debut for Province Ale Co. investors at Dogfish Head Brewings & Eats on Saturday, September 21, 2013. It will be on tap until it is gone.
