Black Thai

Black Thai is an Imperial Stout brewed with edamame and Thai basil. It is then fermented with a lager yeast and 250 pounds of pureed Oregon blackberries.

This brew was the brainchild of Butch Burgess in our Maintenance Department at the Milton brewery (he wasn't a big fan of stouts, then had one with blackberries that changed his life!). Butch, Lead Brewer Bryan Selders and our own Sam Calagione brewed this beer at our Rehoboth Beach pub and even dressed for the occasion!

Some folks have found it odd that we added soybeans (aka edamame) to the brew - what the heck are we thinking? Nope, it's not just for the heck of it - turns out there is some rationale for adding soybeans.

You find out all about the soybean addition, the local Delmarva connection (that's the Delaware, Maryland, Virginia peninsula where we call home) in the video....
