Verdi Verdi Good

A Dortmunder greened with Spirulina.

What the heck is a Dortmunder? According to our friends at Beer Advocate...

"Made popular in the 19th century in Dortmund, Germany, these pale golden lagers exhibit a classic clean character with notes of biscuity malts. Bitterness is akin to a German Pilsner with an aromatic aroma. Mouthfeel is firm and even, with an overall dry tone."

The idea for thethe Dogfish Headversion actually was born of beers already being produced in Southeast Asia, namely Myanmar (formerly Burma) and Thailand. The main type of beer made in that area of the world is akin to the Dortmunder/Export type lagers of Germany. Both Myanmar and Thailand have breweries producing a beer which is their regular production lager with spirulina added. Hence, Verdi Verdi Good was born.

Verdi Verdi Good holds true to the Dortmunder style and gains a delightful green and a subtle organic aroma from the addition of spirulina. Spirulina is a blue green algae prized for its high nutritional protein content.

We brewed this beer once - turns out it wasn't at the top of our list of successes!
